"Karnataka Targets ₹40,000 Crore Investment for KHIR City Development"
The Karnataka government has taken a strategic leap towards the establishment of a groundbreaking Knowledge, Healthcare, Innovation, and Research (KHIR) City on the outskirts of Bengaluru. In a bid to propel growth in the healthcare, innovation, and knowledge sectors, the government is targeting an impressive ₹40,000 crore in investments, with the added promise of generating 80,000 job opportunities within the envisioned KHIR City.
Spanning an extensive 2,000 acres within a 60-kilometer radius from Bengaluru, the proposed development will unfold in multiple phases. KHIR City is strategically designed to attract investments from leading global and national entities, including hospitals, research institutions, universities, and private companies.
The government envisions KHIR City as a catalyst in fortifying Bengaluru's stature as a key hub for medical tourism. Beyond economic implications, the development is anticipated to create employment opportunities for the local populace and draw in diverse skill sets from around the world.
M B Patil, the Minister for Large and Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development, expressed enthusiasm about the transformative journey embarked upon by the state. "We are building a city that transcends conventional boundaries—a KHIR City," Patil stated. He underscored the initiative's potential to contribute significantly to the state's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), estimating a minimum of ₹1 lakh crore due to heightened economic activity.
The proposed KHIR City stands as a testament to Karnataka's commitment to fostering innovation, research, and healthcare, poised to reshape the economic landscape and propel the state into a new era of sustainable development.
