Karnataka Govt mulls major hubs along Mumbai-Bangalore economic corridor.

Karnataka is planning to create two or three major hubs along the Mumbai-Bangalore economic corridor.

The Mumbai-Bangalore economic corridor is spread across Karnataka and Maharashtra and passes through major cities such as Chitradurga, Hubballi-Dharwad, Belagavi, Solapur, Sangli, Pune and Mumbai.

'One of the hubs can be Davangere or Chitradurga depending on land availability. About 2,000 to 3,000 acres are needed, and the second could be in Hubballi-Dharwad or Belagavi,' said K Ratna Prabha, Karnataka Additional Chief Secretary, Industries and Commerce department.

'During our stay for 20 days in Belgaum for the State Assembly session, we were able to visit a few districts during free-time to assess land availability. We could identify some land parcels in both government and private possession in Belagavi and Hubballi -Dharwad,' she added.

The Centre is expected to hold a meet on the economic corridor shortly. 'One hub may get clearance immediately and work on other hubs can be taken up in phases or create smaller special investment areas as we have mentioned in our Industrial Policy,' she explained.
