Installation of Chhatrapati Shivaji's statue cleared.

The state's plans to install the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji off the Marine Drive coast received a shot in the arm recently.

National Environmental Engineering and Research institute, Nagpur, has given the project the go-ahead in its environment impact assessment (EIA) study submitted to the state. The EIA has also asked for a few more studies such as traffic dispersal, boating facilities at the jetty and an evacuation plan in case of disaster. The project has already received an in-principle nod from the union environment ministry. 'Now we will formally send proposal to MoEF for clearance,' revealed a top Mantralaya official associated with the project.
