Western Railway Plans Train Maintenance Shift to Laxmibai Nagar as Indore Station Redevelopment Begins in March
Western Railway has outlined its plan to begin the redevelopment of Indore Railway Station in March this year, a project aimed at enhancing passenger amenities and improving train operations. During a visit to the city on Friday, General Manager Ashok Kumar Mishra announced that the tender for the redevelopment had been awarded and that work will commence shortly.
To accommodate the increasing number of trains and support the redevelopment project, all train maintenance activities will be relocated to Laxmibai Nagar and Mhow railway stations. Laxmibai Nagar is set to be developed into a major coaching depot to handle the additional workload.
Mishra also provided updates on ongoing rail projects, including the Indore-Dahod rail line, which is progressing rapidly, and the resolution of land acquisition issues for the Mhow-Sanawad broad gauge line.
During his visit, concerns were raised by railway coolies about the impact of the redevelopment, particularly with the introduction of e-carts and the relocation of maintenance work. Mishra assured them that their concerns would be addressed in due course.
In addition, members of the Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee met with the GM to discuss passenger-related issues, such as providing online facilities for disabled persons to obtain railway passes.
The redevelopment of Indore Railway Station and the shift of maintenance activities are seen as key steps in enhancing railway infrastructure in the region, which will improve the passenger experience and contribute to the city's overall development, according to senior railway officials.
