HFCL Launches Defence Manufacturing Unit in Hosur to Produce Thermal Weapon Sights.
HFCL Limited, a leading technology and communications solutions provider, has opened a state-of-the-art defence equipment manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. The facility, inaugurated on December 23, 2024, marks a significant step in HFCL's contribution to India's defence manufacturing and self-reliance under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
The facility will produce advanced defence equipment, including Thermal Weapon Sights, Electronic Fuzes, High Capacity Radio Relay (HCRR) systems, and Ground Surveillance Radars. With an annual production capacity of 5,000 Thermal Weapon Sights, 2 lakh Electronic Fuzes, and 1,000 units each of HCRR and Surveillance Radars, the facility is poised to meet the needs of India’s armed forces and international markets.
Keynote speaker and former DRDO Chairman G. Satheesh Reddy urged HFCL to focus on expanding its export capabilities while reducing India’s dependency on imported defence technologies.
The facility boasts advanced clean rooms, including 10,000 Class and 1,00,000 Class environments, dedicated to the production of Thermal Imaging Cores and Thermal Weapon Sights. “This new facility will enable us to deliver cutting-edge defence technologies to our armed forces and strengthen India’s position in global defence markets,” said HFCL’s Managing Director, Mahendra Nahata.
HFCL’s product portfolio includes Thermal Weapon Sights for small arms, programmable Electronic Fuzes, HCRR systems supporting 100 Mbps tactical communications, and advanced Surveillance Radars leveraging FMCW technology for precise threat detection.
The establishment of this facility is expected to create local employment opportunities while bolstering India’s defence export capabilities. By aligning with the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission, HFCL aims to play a pivotal role in making India a global hub for defence manufacturing.
