Gujarat State Petronet Commissions Chhara Gas Pipeline.

Gujarat State Petronet Limited (GSPL) has commissioned a natural gas pipeline linking Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd’s (HPCL) greenfield 5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) LNG regasification terminal at Chhara in Gujarat’s Gir-Somnath district to the national gas grid, according to an official release on Saturday.

Developed at a cost of approximately ₹650 crore, the pipeline has a transmission capacity of 18 million standard cubic meters per day. Commissioned on March 20, it passes along the outskirts of the eco-sensitive zone of Gir National Park & Wildlife Sanctuary.

The engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for the pipeline—from HPCL’s LNG terminal in Chhara to Lothpur in Amreli district—was awarded to Mumbai-based Ace Pipeline Contracts Private Limited in September 2023. The project includes a dispatch terminal at Chhara LNG, valve stations, and a receiving terminal at Lothpur.

The HPCL LNG terminal, operated by HPCL LNG Limited (a subsidiary of HPCL), is designed to regasify 5 MTPA of LNG, strengthening India’s natural gas infrastructure and supply network.
