Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has approved an allocation of Rs 220 crore, which represents the state government's 50% share, for the four-laning and renovation of the Kalupur and Sarangpur railway overbridges. This initiative is part of the Rs 440 crore Kalupur Railway Station Redevelopment Project, which is aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Virasat Bhi, Vikas Bhi' vision, focusing on enhancing infrastructure and improving citizens' ease of living.
The funds will be used for the renovation and four-laning of the old Kalupur-Sarangpur railway overbridges under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana, which was launched by PM Modi in 2010.
The Kalupur Railway Overbridge (Manu Bhai Parmar Bridge), built in 1915, and the Sarangpur Railway Overbridge, constructed in 1940, have long been key parts of Ahmedabad’s transport infrastructure. The Kalupur bridge is currently three lanes wide with footpaths, while Sarangpur is just two lanes. Due to their age, safety concerns, and increasing traffic load, both overbridges will be demolished and replaced with four-lane structures by the Railway Land Development Authority.
Additionally, Rs 52.83 crore has been allocated for the construction of a new overbridge at the existing railway crossing LC-100-2E on Radhanpur city and Bhilot road. This overbridge will improve transportation links between Radhanpur, Bhilot, and Suigam, easing travel and goods transportation.
The total financial allocation for these three infrastructure projects amounts to Rs 272.75 crore, which includes Rs 106.67 crore for the Kalupur Railway Overbridge, Rs 113.25 crore for the Sarangpur Railway Overbridge, and Rs 52.83 crore for the Radhanpur Bridge. These upgrades will improve connectivity, alleviate traffic congestion, and save time, energy, and fuel for citizens.
