Goregaon to get a new flyover.

In a bid to ease traffic congestion in Goregaon (west), the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to construct a new flyover at the junction of Veer Savarkar Bridge and SV Road. The cement concrete flyover will be built at an estimated cost of `26.37 crore.

According to civic officials, the Veer Savarkar Bridge ends at Goregaon (west), due to which there is a lot of traffic congestion at SV Road junction, resulting in wastage of fuel and time of the commuters. There has been a long-standing demand to construct a flyover to ease the traffic jam at this junction.

The civic bridges department had appointed M/s Technogem Consultants as a technical consultant to prepare plans, design and work on the estimates and drafts for the project. After conducting a survey and a soil test, they have suggested building a flyover at the site.

According to civic officials, five bidders had shown interest in the project, out of which M/s RK Madhani and Company emerged as the winner with the lowest bid. The work is to be completed within 15 months including the monsoon season.

“The length of the flyover will be 458 metres and the width 11.5 metres. There will be six spans for the flyover, each having a length of 45 metres. The base will be built on a pile foundation method,” said a senior civic official.

The proposal to build a flyover in Goregaon (west) will be tabled before the civic standing committee meeting for approval on Friday.
