GMR Unveils ₹14,000 Crore Expansion Plan for Hyderabad Airport by 2030.

GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. (GHIAL) has unveiled an ambitious capital expenditure plan of nearly ₹14,000 crore for a significant expansion of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA). This substantial investment, to be implemented by fiscal year 2030-31 (FY31), aims to transform Hyderabad's airport into an even more robust and capable aviation hub, Business Standard has learned.

The comprehensive expansion strategy encompasses several key areas designed to meet the rapidly increasing passenger and cargo traffic. Plans include enhancing the capacity of the existing terminal, constructing a brand-new terminal, and adding a second runway. To improve accessibility, GMR will also focus on improving road access and metro connectivity to the airport. Furthermore, the project will involve a significant scaling up of parking and cargo infrastructure.

Hyderabad airport, currently India’s fourth largest, has experienced remarkable growth in recent years. Passenger traffic has surged from 18.3 million in FY18 to 29.5 million, underscoring the urgent need for this large-scale infrastructure upgrade. This expansion is crucial for RGIA to effectively handle future demand and solidify its position as a vital gateway for both domestic and international travel and trade.
