Foundation for RGUHS campus to be laid in August.

The long-pending issue of shifting Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bengaluru to Ramanagara seems to have been resolved with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah directing officials to fix a date for the foundation stone laying ceremony in the first week of August.

At a meeting with RGUHS officials, Department of Medical Education, Public Works Department and Ramanagara district authorities on Wednesday, Siddaramaiah instructed officials to make arrangements for laying the foundation stone for the varsity’s campus at Archakarahalli in Ramanagara district.

When RGUHS officials raised the issue of the land being under litigation, Siddaramaiah said, “The construction should take place in the first phase only on land which is litigation free.”

The new campus of RGUHS will have a medical college, a dental college, nursing and pharmacy colleges along with a hi-tech hospital. It will also have hostels for students and quarters for doctors. Siddaramaiah said the campus will be called a ‘health city’.

RGUHS officials said that the government has directed them to release `580 crore. The government has already directed the varsity to shift the campus in a phased manner and the university has called for tenders.
