Flyover on 100 Feet Road to open soon.

In a major relief to commuters travelling on the stretch from Indira Gandhi square to Marappalam on 100 Feet Road, the Public Works Department is all set to open the eastern arm of the flyover near the Road Transport Office by end of June.

Minister for Public Works A. Namassivayam told The Hindu that he had directed PDW to speed up black-topping works. “We expect the works to be completed within a week so that one side of the flyover could be thrown open to the public by end of this month,” he said.

The Minister said the entire flyover would be opened in two to three months.

Work on the flyover, which runs to a length of 1.16 km, was taken up by the PWD along with Southern Railway in 2014.

The entire project cost was worked out to be around ₹34. 96 crore, apart from ₹5 crore set aside by Southern Railway for the work near the railway track, a PWD officials said.

The ramp for the flyover on the northern side begins near Natesan Nagar and near the Transport Department on the other side.

A total of 18 concrete pillars and slabs constitute the structure.

Once inaugurated, the flyover will help commuters cut the detour through Point Care Street in Nellithope.

Once the Southern Railway completes its portion of the work above the tracks, the PWD will begin the work to connect the second arm with the ramp, the official said.

On the bypass road at Arumparthapuram, Mr. Namassivayam said the Revenue Department has initiated the land acquisition process and the project will be completed in six months.
