Finance Minister Inaugurates Peanut and Tamarind Processing Facility in Vijayanagar.
Concluding her multi-day tour of Kalyana Karnataka, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday inaugurated the fourth Farmers’ Training and Common Facility Centre for Agro Processing (FT-CFC) at Kasapura village in Vijayanagar district.
Funded through the Minister’s MPLAD scheme in collaboration with the Central Government and NABARD, the initiative aims to foster inclusive, technology-driven, and sustainable rural development, according to a statement from NABARD.
The newly launched centre is part of a broader effort by the Finance Minister, who has previously inaugurated FT-CFCs in Koppal, Raichur, and Ballari. The centres are designed to strengthen rural economies by equipping farmers with modern agro-processing infrastructure, skill training, and better market access.
During the event, Sitharaman flagged off the first consignment of Peanut Chikki and Peanut Butter produced at the centre. She also engaged with members of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and visited stalls displaying locally processed products.
Officials described the project as a significant step toward building self-reliant farming communities in the region.
