Expert Panel Backs Environmental Clearance for ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel’s Andhra Pradesh Plant.

An Expert Advisory Committee (EAC) under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has recommended environmental clearance for the proposed ₹1.5 lakh crore Greenfield steel plant of ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AM/NS) at Anakapalli, Andhra Pradesh.

The ambitious project will be developed in multiple phases, with the first phase aiming to establish an 8.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) integrated steelmaking capacity. Over time, the facility is planned to expand to 24 MTPA, making it one of India’s largest steel complexes.

According to officials, the plant will adopt advanced, energy-efficient, and low-emission technologies, aligning with global sustainability and carbon management standards. The move is expected to bolster India’s domestic steel production capacity while supporting the country’s green growth and industrial development goals.
