DPR Work Commences for Kochi Metro Phase III Line from Aluva to Angamaly via Airport.
Systra MVA Consulting India Pvt Ltd has begun the detailed project report (DPR) preparations for Kochi Metro’s Phase III line from Aluva to Angamaly via the airport, initiating land marking for soil testing and topographic surveys.
Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) officials clarified that the markings on government-owned land are temporary and will be removed after the survey and testing are completed. The ₹1.3-crore DPR contract was awarded to the Haryana-based firm in April 2025, with submission expected within six months. Procedures to appoint the DPR consultant began in 2024 following in-principle approval for central financial assistance from the Urban Transport Division of MoHUA.
The preliminary plan for Phase III envisages the metro line starting at Aluva, following NH 544 to Aleena Valavu near Akaparambu, then via Kariyad-Airport-Mattoor Road to the airport, continuing on Angamaly-Airport Road to MC Road at Angamaly, and extending about 2 km on NH 544 towards Thrissur. The proposed alignment includes a 17.5 km elevated track with a portion underground.
KMRL Managing Director Loknath Behera stated that public suggestions will be sought to ensure the project aligns with community expectations before finalizing the DPR. The report will determine the final line length, alignment, number of stations, and their locations.
