"Dima Hasao District to Witness ₹6,000 Crore Road Upgrade Package and ₹55 Crore Project Investment"
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Inaugurates Projects Worth ₹55 Crore and Announces ₹6,000-Crore Road Infrastructure Development Package in Dima Hasao District
On Saturday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated projects worth ₹55 crore for Dima Hasao and announced a substantial ₹6,000-crore road infrastructure development package for the district. This announcement took place during an arms surrender ceremony by former cadres of the Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) in Haflong.
Last April, the DNLA signed a peace agreement with the Centre and the state government. Each of the 181 surrendered cadres received a fixed deposit certificate of ₹4 lakh as part of a rehabilitation package from the Chief Minister. Sarma described the surrender of weapons by former DNLA members as a historic moment for Dima Hasao's progress towards all-round prosperity and development. He credited the Dimasa civil society groups, intellectuals, and prominent public figures for their mediating role in bringing the DNLA to the negotiating table in 2021.
