"Dighi Industrial Smart City to Boost Maharashtra's $1 Trillion Economy Goal"

The Maharashtra government's infrastructure development plan received a significant boost with the Union Cabinet's approval for the development of the Dighi Port Industrial Area as an industrial smart city. This new city, situated 55 km east of Dighi Port in the Raigad district, will cover 6,056 acres and involve an investment of ₹5,469 crore. The project is expected to attract ₹38,000 crore in investment and create approximately 109,185 jobs.

A senior official from the industry department commented, "The inclusion of the Dighi Port Industrial Area aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming foundation stone ceremony for the ₹76,000 crore Vadhavan Port in Palghar. Both the Dighi smart city and Vadhavan port developments are anticipated to stimulate growth across various sectors, thereby supporting Maharashtra's ambitious goal of achieving a $1 trillion economy."

The Dighi Industrial Smart City will focus on sectors such as engineering, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, textiles, and food and beverages. The development aims to enhance port-led industrialization and capitalize on the nearby Dighi Port.

Additionally, the project is expected to ease congestion in the Mumbai Metropolitan Area and improve connectivity with Mumbai and Pune. It will also foster eco and heritage tourism. Connectivity to the smart city will be supported by NH753F Mangaon-Pune, NH66 Mumbai-Goa national highways, and state highway 97, along with railway links to Kolad, Indapur, and Mangaon.
