Defence Unit's Volume Boost Has TIL Eyeing Greenfield Review.

TIL Ltd., a prominent Kolkata-headquartered company specializing in material handling and infrastructure equipment, is reassessing the necessity of establishing a dedicated greenfield manufacturing facility for its burgeoning defence-grade products. This strategic shift comes as the company anticipates significant growth in its defence sector volumes.

TIL recently created a specialized Strategic Business Unit (SBU) to focus on the development and scaling of its defence offerings. The company's pipeline currently includes a range of advanced defence solutions, such as next-generation missile launch platforms, electromechanical missile-launch systems, and composite-steel bridging solutions, all reportedly in advanced stages of discussion.

Currently, TIL operates two defence manufacturing facilities, located in Kolkata and Kharagpur. These existing plants are actively producing defence equipment, and the company is in the process of gradually reallocating work to segregate outputs between them. This internal optimization suggests that TIL may be exploring ways to maximize the capacity of its current infrastructure before committing to a new, purpose-built plant.
