Daimler's Indian research arm inaugurates third facility in Bengaluru.

The Indian research and development arm of German luxury car maker Daimler is looking to rapidly expand its operations in the country and inaugurated its third facility in Bengaluru recently.

The centre situated in the Whitefield locality of the city has a seating capacity for 900 people, is spread across nearly 1.2 lakh square feet and neighbours the Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India (MBRDI) head office.

'The digital transformation of our company is in full swing and is affecting our entire value chain. MBRDI supports multiple regional hubs of Daimler in keeping the product on computer for as long as possible,' said Thomas Merker, Vice President Body & Safety at Mercedes-Benz Cars Development and acting chairman of MBRDI.

Managing the information technology and development needs of several departments for Daimler globally, MBRDI recently employs nearly 3,000 engineers in India. Apart from its Bengaluru presence, the company also has a unit in Pune that was recently expanded to accommodate an additional 200 seats.

'With 19 years behind us, we are excited about our growth and what we offer here at MBRDI. We have graduated higher up the value chain and contributing significantly in some niche areas of digital product development,' said Manu Saale, MD and CEO at MBRDI.
