Covid-19: ESIC hospitals may set up 400 isolation beds.

The government has proposed setting up 400 isolation beds in 27 labour ministry-run ESIC health institutions across India to be used for general public, if need arises, following a directive from health ministry. Of this, 95 wards will be set up in Delhi followed by 50 in Karnataka and 45 in Kerala.

In a notification to all its hospitals, the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation said a decision to this effect was taken at a recently held high-level meeting under health minister on steps needed to be undertaken at ESIC health institutions. “As you are aware, Covid-19 poses a serious health threat across the globe, including India.

With each passing day, number of persons infected with virus has potential to grow,” it said.
