"Construction Commences on Three Underground Metro Stations"

Excavation work commenced on Monday for the Rawatpur-Double Puliya underground section of Corridor-2 in the Kanpur Metro Rail Project. This section, spanning approximately 4.10 km between CSA University and Barra-8, marks a significant milestone in the project's progress.

Senior officials from UPMRC (Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation) and contracting agencies oversaw the initiation of ground excavation to lower the panel of the first Diaphragm Wall (D-Wall) at the Rawatpur underground station.

Pre-construction activities, including soil testing, barricading, and utility shifting, have been ongoing since the tender was awarded in December last year. With the commencement of the D-Wall excavation process, the construction work for this section advances to the next stage. The section will include the construction of Rawatpur, Kakadeo, and Double Puliya metro stations, with Rawatpur station serving as a crucial interchange point connecting both corridors of the Kanpur Metro.

The D-Wall serves as the boundary of an underground metro station and will be constructed with small rectangular panels. Rawatpur Metro Station will utilize 65 such panels of various sizes.

These underground stations will be built using the 'Top-Down Method', wherein construction progresses from top to bottom. Initially, the roof slab will be prepared, followed by the construction of concourse platform levels.

This construction method aims to minimize disruption to traffic, as barricading on roads will be reduced after the construction of the first floor underground. Construction below ground level will continue seamlessly, ensuring smooth vehicular movement on the roads. This method is also being adopted for the underground sections of Corridor-1 in the Kanpur Metro project.
