CM Himanta Biswa Reviews ₹300 Crore Infrastructure Project for AMCH.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday reviewed the master plan for a ₹300 crore development project at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh. The project aims to modernize the infrastructure of the oldest medical college in the northeast, established in 1947, with state-of-the-art residential and institutional facilities.

Sarma chaired a high-level meeting at the CM's secretariat in Dibrugarh to assess the detailed plans for the initiative. The meeting was attended by State Power Minister and Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan, Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Bikram Kairi, SP Rakesh Reddy, AMCH Principal and Chief Superintendent Dr. Sanjeeb Kakati, and senior officials from the Public Works Department (PWD).

The redevelopment plan includes replacing outdated residential facilities with modern accommodations for college staff and students. The project will feature new residences for the principal, vice-principal, senior and junior professors, and third- and fourth-grade employees. It also includes the construction of boys’ and girls’ hostels, GNM quarters, and a convention center, ensuring all basic and advanced amenities are integrated to meet the institution’s evolving needs.

"Assam Medical College and Hospital is not just an institution; it is a legacy that has served the people of the northeast for decades. This ₹300 crore project is a step toward modernizing its infrastructure and ensuring that it continues to provide world-class healthcare and education. We will ensure the project is completed swiftly and efficiently," Sarma stated.

The CM emphasized the importance of aligning the new facilities with AMCH’s long-term requirements. “As the premier medical institution in the northeast, AMCH deserves infrastructure that reflects its historical significance. We must ensure that the new residential colony and other facilities are equipped with modern amenities. This will not only enhance the living conditions of staff and students but also attract top talent to the institution,” he added.

AMCH Principal Dr. Sanjeeb Kakati expressed his gratitude for the government's initiative, highlighting its significance in strengthening the institution’s legacy and future.
