China to construct Arial Khan bridge

Madaripur: China will provide financial assistance to construct a bridge on the River Arial Khan at Kazirtek Ferry Ghat point in Madaripur to facilitate communication network between Dhaka and 21 southwestern districts in the country.

‘The Chinese government will provide financial assistance to construct Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge on the River Arial Khan as a mark of friendship between the two countries,’ Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh Zheng Quingdian said in Madaripur.

The ambassador, who was with communications minister Syed Abul Hossain during his [minister’s] visit to Madaripur and Shariatpur districts, said Chinese cooperation in the communications sector would continue.

He said China had already financed to construct six bridges in the country.

Speaking at a gathering at Kazirtek Ferry Ghat point, the communications minister said the bridge would be constructed to fulfil the long-cherished demand of the people of the region.

Parliament member Shahjahan Khan and local Awami League leaders were present on the occasion.
On his way to Madaripur, Syed Abul Hossain, who visited his constituency for the first time after taking oath as minister, made stopovers at Mongol Majhi Ferry Ghat at Jajira of Shariatpur district and Khoajpur in Madaripur district.

Awami League activists, including lawmaker ABM Mozammel Hossain, greeted the minister and the guests.

Communications secretary Iqbal Mahmud and senior officials of the ministry accompanied the minister during the visit.
