Chennai Division Speeds Up Key Railway Infrastructure Enhancement Works.

Chennai Division has reported significant progress in infrastructure strengthening and track improvement works during 2025–26, enabling the relaxation of several Permanent Speed Restrictions (PSRs) across major railway corridors.

According to a statement from Southern Railway, the easing of speed restrictions has been achieved through systematic engineering interventions, including track renewal, strengthening of formation, curve realignment, transition corrections, and continuous monitoring of track geometry and riding quality standards.

As part of these upgrades, permissible speeds have been increased in select sections of the Chennai Central–Arakkonam stretch on the Chennai Central–Jolarpettai route. The improvements were implemented at locations where earlier speed restrictions existed due to reverse curves, following targeted corrective engineering works.

Rail officials said the upgrades are aimed at improving operational efficiency, reducing travel time, and enhancing passenger safety across key routes in the division.
