A detailed project report (DPR) for a new railway line connecting Tirupattur and Hosur via Jolarpet has been prepared and submitted to the Centre. The proposed Tirupattur–Hosur line is estimated to cost ₹4,000 crore, according to Southern Railway officials.
The new line will span 109.24 km with tracks designed for speeds of up to 130 kmph. State-of-the-art infrastructure and technology will be deployed to ensure efficient train operations. The route will pass through Kandili, Bargur, Krishnagiri, Polupalli, Chinnar, and Shoolagiri, where six new railway stations are planned.
Land acquisition for the project will cover approximately 64.435 acres in Tirupattur district and 335.69 acres in Krishnagiri district. Construction of the tracks and stations is expected to begin once the necessary funds are allocated.
The project addresses growing demand for rail services between Tirupattur and Hosur, driven by increasing industrial activity and employment opportunities in Hosur and neighboring districts such as Tirupattur, Dharmapuri, and Krishnagiri. A recent consultative meeting in Krishnagiri brought together officials from the Railways and the Tamil Nadu government, along with industrialists and traders, to discuss the proposal.
Officials noted that the region previously had a 42 km narrow-gauge railway line from Tirupattur to Krishnagiri via Bargur, which was operational until 1942. Train services on that route were discontinued during World War II when several lines across the country were closed.
