Centre Explores Feasibility of New Airport in Anantapur.

The Centre is examining the feasibility of establishing an airport in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, and is awaiting the State Government's identification of suitable land for the project. This announcement was made by Union Minister for Civil Aviation, K. Rammohan Naidu, in Visakhapatnam.

"If suitable land is provided by the State Government, we shall further consider setting up an airport here to facilitate the export of horticultural products," Naidu stated. This response came after a request from Andhra Pradesh Finance Minister Pyyavula Keshav and local MPs Ambika Lakshmi Narayana and B.K. Parthasarathi.

An airport in Anantapur would benefit the State Government's efforts, as the town is close to Bengaluru. Currently, Andhra Pradesh has three international and three domestic airports in operation. The primary focus is now on the Bhogapuram International Airport near Visakhapatnam, which is under construction. Naidu noted that the Centre aims to make the first phase of this new airport operational by January 2026.
