Carrier India to build new R&D centre in Gurgaon

New Delhi: Carrier Air-conditioning and Refrigeration (Carrier India) has broken ground for the construction of a new global Research & Development (R&D) Centre in Gurgaon.

The new global R&D centre is part of a $50 million (Rs 200 Cr) multi-year investment in India that Carrier announced last November.

It will develop industry-leading products and technology and support Carrier's expanding manufacturing operations in India.

The R&D unit will not only facilitate the local development of new products and technology but also enable faster transfer of appropriate technology from across Carrier to India and its customisation to suit the Indian climatic conditions, a company release said.

Expected to open in 2009, this new facility will be a LEED-Certified Green Building and Carrier's third global R&D center in Asia.

The centre will include a state-of-the-art facility to educate and train Carrier India's employees, channel partners and customers on its products.

The company will also invest in people by adding positions in highly skilled areas such as engineering.

'This facility will further strengthen our position in India and enable us to bring the latest technology along with innovative and energy-efficient products and services to the local market,” President of Carrier Corp, Geraud Darnis said.

Carrier India's parent company is Carrier Corp., a unit of United Technologies Corp.
