Cabinet approves Declaration of Madurai Airport, Tamil Nadu, as an International Airport.

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recently approved the declaration of Madurai Airport as an international airport.

Located in the temple city of Madurai, the airport is among the oldest in the state of Tamil Nadu. It serves as a key gateway to southern parts of the state and plays an important role in supporting tourism and pilgrimage activities in the region.

According to the government, granting international status to the airport is expected to strengthen regional connectivity, facilitate trade and boost economic development. The move is also likely to help attract more international pilgrims and businesses, in line with Madurai’s long-standing historical and cultural significance.
