Bellandur residents irked by inordinate wait for skywalk on ORR stretch.
Three months after the fatal accident of a security guard who was trying to cross the Outer Ring Road stretch in Bellandur, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is yet to begin work on the skywalk it promised would be ready by March.
Protests
In December 2017, responding to massive protests by residents of Bellandur following the death of Sanjay Giri, 19, the security guard of an apartment complex in the locality, the BBMP had assured them of a skywalk here to help pedestrians cross the road without putting their lives at risk.
“There have been several accidents on this stretch. Our MLA Aravind Limbavali too had assured us of a skywalk here. They had promised us that they would start work immediately after an NOC from the BMRCL, which they received on January 2. No work has begun till now,” said Kishori M., a resident of Bellandur.
The residents will be meeting Mayor R. Sampath Raj on Monday to urge the Palike to speed up the process.
However, BBMP Commissioner N. Manjunath Prasad said the construction work would start once the issue was passed in the BBMP Council.
Approvals
Bellandur Councillor Asha Suresh added, “We have received approvals from metro officials and the traffic police. They will be placed before the council in the coming week,” she said.
