Bajel Projects Limited has secured an ultra-mega order worth over ₹700 crore from the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (MSETCL) to build a 400/220 kV Air Insulated Switchgear (AIS) substation at Saswad, Pune, along with associated transmission lines. The company described it as the largest single order in its power transmission business.
The turnkey EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) project covers design, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of the substation and transmission lines, including civil, supply, and ETC (Erection, Testing & Commissioning) works.
At the core of the project is a greenfield 2×500 MVA, 400/220 kV AIS substation with a 1×125 MVAr bus reactor at the 400 kV level, designed with provisions for future expansion to meet Maharashtra’s long-term power demand. The scope also includes bay additions at three existing and proposed substations to integrate the new Saswad unit into the state transmission network, along with construction of multiple 400 kV and 200 kV transmission lines and LILO configurations.
Strategically located in Pune district, the Saswad substation will serve as a critical node in Maharashtra's high-voltage transmission network, boosting power evacuation capacity for the rapidly industrialising region and enhancing grid reliability across the state.
Commenting on the development, Rajesh Ganesh, Managing Director & CEO of Bajel Projects Limited, said: “Securing this ₹700 crore+ ultra-mega order from MSETCL is a milestone for Bajel Projects and a strong validation of our EPC capabilities in the high-voltage substation segment. This project is critical infrastructure that will strengthen Maharashtra's transmission network and support the region’s growing industrial and urban power demand. Our team is fully committed to delivering the project with the highest standards of quality and safety.”
