Singapore-based energy-as-a-service (EaaS) infrastructure company August Energy and Indian energy-efficiency firm Energeia have launched a $100 million platform, August Energeia, to finance and implement energy-efficiency and decarbonisation projects for commercial and industrial customers across India. The initiative will initially focus on Cooling-as-a-Service (CaaS), enabling factories and commercial buildings to modernise cooling systems without making large upfront capital investments.
The platform will also support upgrades involving heating, steam, compressed air, fuel switching and motor-driven equipment, along with renewable-energy projects using solar, wind and battery storage.Under the EaaS model, August Energeia will finance, install and manage the infrastructure, while project returns will be linked to the energy savings and performance achieved. This approach is designed to shift customers from conventional capital expenditure to performance-linked operating expenditure.
The platform will target energy-intensive industries including pharmaceuticals, automotive, food and beverage, chemicals, cement, steel, healthcare, hospitality, data centres and commercial real estate. August Energy will provide capital, project structuring and business-development expertise, supported by institutional investors, while Energeia will contribute energy audits, engineering execution, technology and on-ground implementation capabilities. The partnership aims to aggregate distributed energy-efficiency projects into a scalable infrastructure investment opportunity while helping Indian businesses reduce operating costs, improve energy resilience and accelerate decarbonisation without diverting capital from core expansion
