Arvind Ltd, Peak Sustainability Ventures Partner to Set Up Torrefaction Plant in Gujarat.

Arvind Ltd has partnered with Mumbai-based climate investment firm Peak Sustainability Ventures to set up a large-scale cotton-stalk torrefaction plant in Gujarat, with a capacity of over 40,000 tonnes. The facility will convert cotton stalks into energy-dense biomass, which can replace coal in boilers at Arvind’s manufacturing units.

Peak Sustainability Ventures has played a key role in assembling the project by developing the reactor design, identifying the technology partner, and funding the project’s ₹12-crore capex, according to an official release. For Arvind, the initiative marks a significant step toward its goal of becoming a 100 per cent coal-free company by 2030. For local communities, the project is expected to create non-agricultural employment opportunities and provide productive use for cotton stalks that would otherwise decay or be burned in open fields.

“This torrefaction project with Peak is one of the best examples of circular economy and waste-to-energy we have seen in the textiles space, exemplifying what a regenerative textile ecosystem can look like,” said Punit Lalbhai, Vice-Chairman of Arvind Ltd. “I am proud to announce this collaboration as a bold step toward responsible manufacturing at scale.”
