Andhra Pradesh government seeks more gas allocation from ONGC.

The Andhra Pradesh government requested the Centre to allot additional natural gas for its power plants.

The AP government said that it currently receives 0.5 million metric standard cubic metre per day (mmscmd) from ONGC for its power plants and it needs an additional 0.5 mmscmd, according to an official release issued recently.

'The ONGC started gas supplies from G1 structure in the Krishna-Godavari Basin and currently supplies 0.5 mmscmd of natural gas to existing gas power projects in AP. In this regard the AP Chief Minister has requested the ONGC and the Government of India for allocation of an additional 0.5 mmscmd to help the state generate an additional 100 MW (2.4MU) of electricity per day,' an Andhra Pradesh government press release said.

Due to shortage of natural gas, only five to six million units of electricity are generated, as against an expected 34 million units and depletion of natural resources made power supply a major challenge, the release said.
