AM/NS India Invests ₹1,000 Crore in New Production Line in Gujarat.
ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) has invested nearly ₹1,000 crore to establish a new production line for Magnelis at its Hazira plant in Gujarat. This investment aims to capture over 50% of the domestic market for steel supplies used in solar projects and other critical sectors, including road infrastructure, agriculture infrastructure, and construction.
Magnelis is a high-performance flat carbon steel coated with a zinc-aluminium-magnesium alloy, known for its exceptional corrosion resistance and self-healing properties. The new production line at Hazira will have an annual capacity of 500,000 tonnes.
The joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel highlights the strategic importance of Magnelis in India’s renewable energy and infrastructure sectors. AM/NS India is already in advanced discussions to supply Magnelis to major players such as Adani Green Energy, Reliance Industries, and NTPC.
Previously, Magnelis was imported from countries like Korea, Japan, and China, often leading to long delivery times. With this new production line, AM/NS India aims to address this supply gap and meet the rising demand for high-end steel products.
Ranjan Dhar, Director and Vice President of Sales & Marketing at AM/NS India, noted that approximately 60-65% of the joint venture’s portfolio is focused on value-added products, a focus that will continue even as the company expands. AM/NS India is investing ₹60,000 crore to increase its capacity from 9 million tonnes to 15 million tonnes by early 2026, including the addition of a 2 million tonne auto-focused cold rolling mill at Hazira next year.
Dilip Oommen, CEO of AM/NS India, emphasized that the introduction of Magnelis supports the nation’s growing demand for high-performance steel and contributes to the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
