Ahmedabad Airport to Get New Integrated Terminal to Boost Passenger Capacity.

Work on the New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport has commenced, with the airport operator targeting completion and operationalisation of the facility by 2029-30, sources familiar with the development said.

The first phase of the terminal will be constructed on the right side of the existing domestic terminal, extending from the T3 side. The project is estimated to cost more than ₹3,000 crore, according to submissions made by the airport operator before the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA).

A source said Terminal 3 (T3) has been largely vacated to facilitate the construction work. “T3 has nearly been vacated. The existing spaces are being demarcated as construction of the periphery is underway,” the source said.

The terminal complex will be developed in phases, allowing current airport operations to continue while new infrastructure is built. The phased approach is expected to minimise disruption to passengers and maintain regular movement at the airport.

“At present, there are no restrictions on passenger movement or vehicular traffic on the airport approach roads. If any area needs to be closed or cordoned off for public movement as construction progresses, passengers will be informed in advance to ensure minimal inconvenience,” a source said.

The expansion project comes amid rising passenger traffic at Ahmedabad airport, prompting the need for additional infrastructure to meet future demand. The new integrated terminal will gradually increase passenger handling capacity and form part of the airport’s broader expansion plan.

The airport operator is also undertaking upgrades to existing terminal facilities to accommodate growing passenger volumes. Separately, construction of a new Air Traffic Control (ATC) facility began around two months ago near the existing Airports Authority of India office within the airport premises.

Other ongoing infrastructure initiatives at the airport include improvements to airside facilities and utility systems as part of efforts to strengthen overall airport capacity and operations.
