Adani to Build ₹4,081 Crore Kedarnath Ropeway, Cutting Travel Time to 36 Minutes.
The Adani Group is set to build its first-ever ropeway project, a ₹4,081 crore endeavor that will connect Sonprayag and Kedarnath in Uttarakhand. Adani Enterprises Ltd. (AEL) announced recently that it has received a Letter of Award from the National Highways Logistics Management Ltd. (NHLML) for the 12.9-kilometer-long project.
The new ropeway will drastically reduce the arduous, nine-hour journey to the revered Kedarnath temple down to just 36 minutes. The project will be executed by AEL's Roads, Metro, Rail and Water (RMRW) division and is designed to carry 1,800 passengers per hour in each direction.
Part of the government’s Parvatmala Pariyojana—the National Ropeways Development Programme—the project will be developed as a Public-Private Partnership (PPP). The construction is expected to take six years to complete, after which Adani Enterprises will operate it for 29 years.
The current journey to the Kedarnath temple is a challenging 16-km uphill trek from Gaurikund, typically covered on foot, by ponies, or via a helicopter service. The new ropeway aims to offer pilgrims a more convenient and all-weather travel option, ensuring easier access to the holy site.
