8 districts in Karnataka to come under city gas distribution.

Eight districts spread across six geographical areas (GAs) in Karnataka will come under city gas distribution projects.

These six GAs in Karnataka are part of the 65 GAs awarded by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) at its 9th CGD bidding round. The 65 GAs are spread across 129 districts in the country.

PNGRB launched the 10th CGD bidding round for 50 GAs spread across 14 States this month . when allotted will increase coverage of city gas distribution to 70 per cent of the country’s population and 53 per cent of its area.

The GAs in Karnataka are: Ramanagara (the project has been bagged by Maharashtra Natural Gas Ltd or MNGL), Dakshina Kannada (GAIL Gas), Udupi (Adani), Chitraturga and Davangere (Unison Enviro Pvt Ltd), Bidar, Ballari and Gadag (Bharat Gas Resources Ltd.

Santosh Sontakke, Director, Commercial, Maharashtra Natural Gas Ltd, said, “After MNGL received authorisation for Ramanagara district for development of city gas distribution network, we drew up an eight-year plan with investment to the tune of Rs. 300 crore.”

The company plans to reach 1.13 lakh households, he added.

The GAs in Karnataka included in the 10th CGD bidding round are Bagalkot, Koppal and Raichur districts; Chikkamagaluru, Hassan and Kodagu districts; Kalaburgi and Vijapura districts; Mysuru, Mandya and Chamarajnagar districts; Uttar Kannada, Haveri and Shivamogga districts.
