VOC Port's Cargo Handling Surges, Crediting Strong Hinterland Support

V.O. Chidambaranar Port (V.O.C. Port) in Thoothukudi has achieved a significant milestone, handling over 15 million tonnes of cargo for the 2025–26 fiscal year. This achievement was reached on August 3, 11 days sooner than the previous financial year.

The port's success is also reflected in its container traffic. It has processed 2,98,107 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) up to August 3, marking a strong 9.75% increase over the 2,71,620 TEUs handled during the same period last year.

A diverse range of commodities contributed to this growth, including coal, limestone, salt, rock phosphate, edible oil, and construction materials. The port attributes the surge in container volume to the rapid growth of exports from key industrial centers such as Tirupur, Coimbatore, and Karur.
