Auto component manufacturer Uno Minda Limited has announced its entry into the four-wheeler passenger vehicle seating systems segment with plans to establish a new greenfield manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad), Maharashtra.
The company's Board of Directors has approved a capital expenditure of approximately ₹320 crore for the state-of-the-art facility, which is expected to commence operations by the fourth quarter of FY28.
The project will be developed under Uno Minda Tachi-S Seating Private Limited, a joint venture between Uno Minda and Japan-based TACHI-S Company Limited, a global automotive seating manufacturer.
Uno Minda had entered into the joint venture with TACHI-S in September 2022 to manufacture and market seat recliners for passenger vehicles as its first phase of operations. The latest expansion marks the company's move into complete passenger vehicle seating systems, a higher-value segment in the automotive supply chain.
The company said the expansion will help strengthen its position across the automotive value chain and increase its revenue potential per vehicle. The joint venture has already secured an anchor customer order from a leading original equipment manufacturer (OEM), validating its capabilities and manufacturing readiness, Uno Minda said.
Ravi Mehra, Managing Director, Uno Minda Limited, said the entry into complete passenger vehicle seating systems represents a strategic expansion for the company and will help deepen its presence in a segment critical to the premium vehicle experience.
The new facility reflects Uno Minda's focus on advanced domestic manufacturing and catering to the evolving requirements of India's automotive market, he added.
