UDAN Seaplane Operations to Lakshadweep Expected to Begin June 22.

India’s long-awaited seaplane services under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (UDAN) are likely to commence on June 22, with operations between Kochi and Agatti in Lakshadweep expected to be inaugurated by Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu, according to sources.

The launch marks a key step in expanding air connectivity to island regions, with final security clearances for the project now in place, paving the way for the start of commercial seaplane operations in Lakshadweep.

The development follows a recent communication indicating that the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has recommended allowing seaplane operations in the Union Territory under a security framework similar to that applicable to helicopter services.

Once operational, the Kochi–Agatti route is expected to significantly reduce travel time and improve accessibility to the island region, supporting both tourism and regional connectivity objectives under the UDAN scheme.
