Two Dams Under Construction in Gujarat, Says GSDSO.

The Gujarat State Dam Safety Organization (GSDSO) has reported that two dams are currently under construction in the state—Bhadbhut barrage in Narmada district and Hirpura barrage in Mehsana district. The details were revealed in GSDSO's annual report for 2023-24, which was tabled in the state assembly last week.

According to the report, the Bhadbhut barrage is 45-50% complete, while 93% of work on the Hirpura

barrage has been finished.

The GSDSO report also confirmed that no dam failures were recorded in Gujarat during 2023-24. However, an inspection of a dam in Saputara could not be conducted due to an ownership dispute.

The report provides an overview of 530 specified dams in the state, of which 523 are owned by the Gujarat government, while seven belong to other organizations.

For the year, GSDSO was allocated ₹312.20 crore, but actual expenditure stood at ₹323 crore. The agency evaluates dam safety incidents based on damage extent, economic impact, water volume released, and the number of affected people and structures.
