Thirumazhisai township to be revived.

The Thirumazhisai satellite township project, which was put on the backburner, will be revived soon.

Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB) is planning to select an architectural consultant for the project by the middle of this year.

TNHB has floated bids for the selection which will be over in about four months, a senior government official says. The chosen consultant will be required to provide a detailed development plan at the earliest, the official says.

Once this is done, the component of infrastructure development will be implemented, after which the construction of 9,700 flats will be carried out in a phased manner.

To ensure the project takes off early, the authorities have made a significant change in their plan. Originally, when the project was announced in September 2011, the township was to come up on about 311 acres. Subsequently, the project got entangled in a land acquisition row and there is no sign of any early breakthrough.

'As we have 138 acres of land readily available, we have decided to take up the project in the first phase, covering the present extent of land,' says an official.
