Telangana Govt May Extend April 30 Deadline for Hyderabad Metro Rail Takeover.

Telangana Govt May Extend April 30 Deadline for Hyderabad Metro Rail Takeover.

The Telangana Government is likely to extend the April 30, 2026 deadline for taking over Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) from L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Officials indicated that the extension is being considered after the government was unable to finalise complex financial arrangements required to complete the transaction. Certain procedural formalities are also still pending.

In February, the State Cabinet approved the acquisition of a 100 per cent equity stake in Phase-I of the metro project. The proposed takeover involves assuming existing debt of around ₹13,000 crore, along with payments linked to L&T’s equity investment.

Key components of the deal include financial restructuring, transfer of assets and liabilities, and ensuring uninterrupted metro operations during and after the transition
