Second phase water channels rehabilitation in Lahore

Lahore: Senior Minister Raja Riaz Ahmad has said that the provincial government will spend a cumulative amount of Rs 900 million on the second phase of the scheme of rehabilitation of water channels under Farmer Organisations (FOs) in Canal Command Areas of the province.

Presiding over a departmental meeting here on Friday, he said that Rs 37 million had been earmarked in the budget 2008-09 for the said programme. Representatives of FOs and concerned officials also attended the meeting.

Raja Riaz, who also holds the charge of the Minister for Irrigation and Power, pointed out that a comprehensive programme of irrigation reforms was underway in the province for rehabilitation and improving the irrigation system to ensure efficient and equitable distribution of irrigation water. The involvement of stakeholders like water users will contribute to achieve the desired goals, he expressed the hope.
