SAIL wins Rs. 1.32-crore order for cladding Chennai flyover with stainless steel.

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has won a Rs. 1.32-crore order from the Chennai Corporation to provide stainless steel cladding for the existing barriers and pillars of the flyover at the junction of Dr Radhakrishnan Road and TTK Road in the city.

Encasement with stainless steel would ring about savings in maintenance and replacement costs for the corporation for a long period of time and also add aesthetic value to the flyover, a statement from SAIL said.

SAIL will fabricate and install the barrier profiles on the flyover over a length of around 1,040 metres. The cladding material will come from its Salem Steel Plant (SSP) in Tamil Nadu.

Work on this project commenced earlier this week and corporation has plans to take similar measures with respect to the other flyovers in the city to generate savings on maintenance/refurbishment, according to the statement.
