POWERGRID Acquires Two Inter-Region Transmission Projects Valued at ₹3,375 Crore
State-owned Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (POWERGRID) announced recently that it has acquired two major transmission projects worth ₹3,375 crore aimed at strengthening the nation’s power transmission network.
According to the company, the projects will help decongest heavily loaded corridors, enhance power reliability, and enable smoother transfer of renewable energy across regions. They will also support power evacuation from upcoming pumped storage projects, aiding India’s clean energy and grid stability goals.
POWERGRID said it secured the two special purpose vehicles (SPVs) — Vindhyachal Varanasi Transmission Ltd and SR WR Power Transmission Ltd — through tariff-based competitive bidding. Vindhyachal Varanasi Transmission Ltd was acquired from PFC Consulting Ltd on October 16 and involves setting up a 765 kV substation at Prayagraj along with transmission lines across Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
SR WR Power Transmission Ltd, acquired from REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd on October 17, will bolster inter-regional transmission between the Southern and Western grids via a 765 kV transmission line spanning Karnataka and Maharashtra. This project will also facilitate the integration of additional renewable energy capacity in the southern region, particularly from the Bidar Power Station, and improve the import-export capability of the SR Grid.
