Power Grid Awards Major Transformer, Reactor Order to GE Vernova.
GE Vernova's Indian arm, GE Vernova T&D India, has secured a significant order from state-owned Power Grid Corporation of India (Power Grid) for the supply of critical power transmission equipment. This substantial deal will see GE Vernova T&D India provide over 70 extra high-voltage (EHV) transformers and shunt reactors to bolster India's renewable energy (RE) infrastructure.
The high-capacity 765 kV units will be strategically deployed across India's renewable energy corridors, playing a crucial role in the evacuation and transmission of power generated from clean energy sources. This initiative aligns with India's Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) framework, which aims to accelerate the integration of renewable energy into the national grid.
GE Vernova T&D India will be responsible for the comprehensive scope of the project, including the supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of the advanced power equipment. The manufacturing of these transformers and shunt reactors will take place at GE Vernova's state-of-the-art facility located in Vadodara, Gujarat. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in 2026 and continue through 2027.
This landmark order marks one of the largest of its kind for GE Vernova's Electrification business in India, highlighting the company's strong capabilities and Power Grid's confidence in their technology. The deployment of these critical components will significantly enhance the transmission infrastructure required to support India's ambitious renewable energy targets and ensure a more resilient and sustainable power network.
