NLC India Subsidiary Wins Landmark 500 MWh Battery Storage Project in Tamil Nadu.
NLC India Renewables Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Navratna PSU NLC India Limited, has been awarded a significant 500 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project by the Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Limited (TNGECL). This landmark achievement marks a substantial step forward for renewable energy integration in the state.
The project encompasses the development of three standalone BESS installations, totaling a combined capacity of 250 MW / 500 MWh. These crucial storage facilities will be established at the 400/230/110 kV Ottapidaram Substation, 400/230/110 kV Annpankulam Substation, and 400/230/110 kV Kayathar Substation, all strategically located within Tamil Nadu.
According to a company statement, the projects will operate under a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model. NLC India Renewables secured the award through a competitive tariff-based bidding process, aligning with the State Component of the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme. This initiative underscores Tamil Nadu's commitment to bolstering its green energy infrastructure and ensuring grid stability as it integrates more renewable sources.
