NAN GreenMet Signs Partnership with Silox to Strengthen Battery Recycling Capabilities.

NAN GreenMet, the advanced manufacturing platform founded by Navin Agarwal, Vice-Chairman of Vedanta, has entered into a joint venture with Belgium-based Silox, a global leader in hydrometallurgical processing of non-ferrous metal residues, to establish an advanced lithium-ion battery recycling and critical minerals recovery platform in Andhra Pradesh.The joint venture, named NAN Silox GreenMet, aims to create one of India’s most sophisticated battery recycling operations, supporting the country’s growing electric mobility and energy storage sectors.

Under the partnership, the company will develop and operate a state-of-the-art industrial facility capable of processing spent lithium-ion batteri

es through shredding, beneficiation and hydrometallurgical refining. The facility will recover critical minerals and strategic materials, including lithium, cobalt, nickel and manganese, which are essential for battery manufacturing.

The project will be implemented in two phases and is expected to achieve a total processing capacity of up to 40,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) for battery shredding and 20,000 tpa for hydrometallurgical processing.

In addition to recycling operations, NAN Silox GreenMet will explore downstream opportunities to enhance value creation, including the production of cathode active materials and the development of second-life battery applications for stationary energy storage systems.

The venture is expected to strengthen India’s critical minerals supply chain and contribute to the development of a circular economy for battery materials.
