Modalities finalised to complete Mono Rail project
Lahore: The Nazim, City District Government Lahore (CDGL), Mian Amer Mehmmood has said on Wednesday that the Mono Rail project will be completed in the next three years and that his administration has finalised the modalities.
He said this while addressing a meeting of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) hosted by the President-elect LCCI, Mohammad Ali Mian at his residence. The Nazim sought help from the LCCI with regard to the Lahore beautification plan undertaken by the CDGL.
The Senior Vice President of LCCI, Yaqoob Tahir Izhar, President, Punjab Economic Forum, Mian Anjum Nisar, former Vice President LCCI,Sheikh Mohammad Arshad, LCCI Executive Committee member Shaikh Shafique Riaz and Central Chairman, Pakistan Hardware Merchants Association, Usman Ghani were also present in the meeting that discussed a number of projects including traffic mess on city roads, Mono Rail, signal-free movement of vehicles from Wagah to Motorway and shifting of Hide Market.
Replying to a question Mehmmood said that the CDGL was well aware of the traffic issue and was working to widen the canal bank road. He regretted that few NGOs were making useless hue and cry over cutting of trees whereas the situation is totally otherwise. He informed the LCCI president-elect that there is no plan to cut trees along the canal road rather they would be re-rooted few yards away from their existing position with the use of heavy machinery.
The nazim, further said that nothing could stop the widening of canal road if, the LCCI extends it's assistance to the CDGL. While referring to the shifting of Hide Market, he said that the CDGL was ready to shift the Hide Market to the place chosen by the traders of the area but advised them to select the place in view of it's utility for next hundred years.
Later the host assured the city nazim that the business body was striving hard to participate in government's efforts extended full support to make the country economically strong and prosperous.
