Minister: TN to Invest ₹2 Lakh Crore in Energy Infrastructure.

Tamil Nadu's Minister for Transport and Electricity, S.S. Sivasankar, stated recently that the state's power sector will need over ₹2 lakh crore in investments over the next five to seven years to improve generation, transmission, and distribution.

Speaking at a meeting of ministers on the financial health of electricity distribution companies, Sivasankar called for a new, comprehensive debt restructuring scheme. He stressed that the program would require joint participation from both the Union and State governments to be successful.

The minister also highlighted the need for special grants to be allocated to the state through the 16th Finance Commission. The meeting, which took place in New Delhi, was chaired by Union Minister for Power, Housing, and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal and attended by Union Minister of State for Power Shripad Yesso Naik.
